The New Astronomy Book, by Danny R. Faulkner
My son Adam is studying Astronomy in Science this year. When The New Astronomy Book, by Danny R. Faulkner came in the mail, I was oh so excited since it goes right along with what he is doing! We have had a lot of fun so far this year.
The New Astronomy Book has 3 skill levels, younger, middle, and high school. Level 1 reads the white background text, which contains a ton of information to understand. The 2nd level uses both the white background and the purpleish background. The 3rd level uses the other 2 levels as well as the blue gridded background.
Call me so crazy, or as my Jacks says, I am being silly. I just think it is incredibly clever the way they set it up okay?
When you open The New Astronomy Book, you are going to find chapters such as, Two Kinds of Planets, History of Astronomy, and Cosmology.
In each chapter, you are going to find a cell phone that contains the missive, or the words to know. I am having my student write them out and define them. He will know what each word is, and how to spell it. You will find the 3 levels of study. You will also find a verse that pertains to the chapter. The first verse is Genesis 1:1 In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The scriptures are taken from the New King James Version. While not what I rather my boys have, I am not fussy about it. I would rather just the KJV. When there is a question, we do pull up our bible and read the verses from there.
Another GREAT feature are the full color photographs. Oh my WORD, they are so colorful! Simply AMAZING! We really thought this was a great feature and made The New Astronomy Book stand right out. I know my son Adam looks forward to this subject each day, and I have to believe it is because he loves not only learning, but checking out each photo that is within the chapter.
Last, but not the least in any bit is the pull-out poster titled, Exploration of our Solar System. It is just incredible. I love the set up. It is glossy, and bright. The planets and their other systems just stick right out. It is so easy to read. It is 3 pages long. So, it is a good size to put on in your “classroom” or, in your child’s room. I am not sure where we will put ours, I just might leave it in the book so that my next child can also check it out and have it to study from.
We give The New Astronomy Book, by Danny R. Faulkner 5 stars.
