Catchy title, huh?
You might be thinking, what is this woman talking about? Better than I deserve to be.
Well, years ago. I asked this woman how she is doing, she said to me better than I deserve to be, and it stumped me. What did she mean? Is this chick loony? What is she talking about? Either she is good or not. So I asked her what it meant. I was told me to think about it, and I did for an entire year.
I grew up knowing about this great guy Jesus Christ. I had learned all the great stories from the Bible. Adam and Eve, Jonah and the whale, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. I was told about David and Goliath, and the woman at the well. Of course the entire Mary and a Joseph, and the wise men story. But I did not have a relationship with him. At least, not a personal one.
So, this is the thing. I deserve hell. We all do. We are born sinners thanks to Adam and Eve. We have painful deliveries, and sometimes this ground just does not produce good fruit. Right? We wear clothing. Well, most of us do. Not everyone walks around with their breasts hanging out, or their buns out of their pants. That is a whole other post for another day folks. No bunny trails here. Just dogs. But we are ALL sinners, Romans 3:23.
We deserve hell. Not a popular thought these days where there are pastors who preach from the pulpit that we are all good and we are all going to heaven. My friends, that is some false preaching. If you believe that, you will find out that one day, you will wake up and you will be in torment. I was going to add a bunch of scripture here, but when I was doing my research I came across a page that better explained my thoughts, so I am just going to link it here.
But, the best news is, it does not have to be that way. We deserve it, yes. But, we do not have to find ourselves there. Once I accepted Christ I was set free. Christ stands in front of me and God no longer sees my sins. Does not mean I am perfect in this world. I am getting off on a bunny trail here.
I am better than I deserve to be. That is me. I don’t deserve what I have, but God continues to bless me. He continues to amaze me. He continues to love me.
I am better than I deserve to be.
