Alone, Yet Not Alone, By Tracy Leininger Craven
Somewhere along the lines, after the age of 9, my son Jonah learned to love reading. So when Alone Yet, Not Alone came up for review, I jumped on it. I knew it would be right along the lines of what he likes to read. I was right! At the end of the post, you can enter to win a copy too!
Quickly, what Alone, Yet Not Alone is about:
The Leininger family settled deep within America’s new frontier, in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania. They were celebrating their blessings, their faith and a bountiful harvest when their family was torn apart by the Penn’s Creek Massacre. When Barbara and Regina are carried away and separated by Allegheny warriors, both sisters rely on their faith in God’s truth, even in their darkest hour. Rich in historical details, Alone Yet Not Alone is an inspirational, true story of a family caught in the crossfire of the French and Indian war.
Since Jonah read Alone, Yet Not Alone, I am going to let him write in his words a small report.
I liked the book because when the two sisters are reunited together. I liked Galasko because he was kinder than the other Indians to captives. He caught Barbara running away, and gave her a second chance.
I really liked that the author added photos to Alone, Yet Not Alone. While this book is geared towards 8-12 year olds, many books no longer have photos in there. Yet, she put them in. It gave the story more appeal to this generation. I asked Jonah how he would rate Alone, Yet Not Alone and he gave it a 5 star rating. He really liked that it was based on a true story. I thought the story was laid out nicely. From the snippets of the movie, I think that it follows along greatly. I am also giving it a 5 star rating. Any book that keeps him interested and wanting to read is worth those stars. That and I loved the book too! I loved that the author kept my interest right down to the end of the story. We have been learning about this time period in our homeschool. So, Alone, Yet Not Alone was perfect.
